OLE Errors in Excel or Other Office Products

If your firm uses the PPC toolbar inside of Office 2007 or 2010, you may get errors when using an embedded Excel document inside a Word document. This error is related to the way the PPC framework works with the newer versions of Microsoft Office. Thomson acknowledges that this is a programmatic issue and is currently working on a fix to prevent this error from happening, but there is no ETA for a new release to correct this bug.

If you are getting this error, here is what you can do to try to work around this problem:

  • Open the embedded Excel document prior to opening the Word document that contains the embedded Excel document.
  • Request that we install the “non-ribbon” version of the PPC toolbar. This version is the same version used in Office 2003 so it may have differences from the version you are currently using.
