What security measures are in place for cell phones?
Xcentric takes the security of your data very seriously. For this reason, there are default security policies that are in place to protect cell phones that synchronize email with Xcentric.
Here are the details of the security policy:
- The policy applies to iPhone, BlackBerry, and Android phones as well as any other device that retrieves email, calendar appointments and contacts from the Xcentric Cloud network.
- Each device will be prompted to enter a passcode (4+ characters/numbers depending on the type of device) after a period of inactivity.
- The device will timeout and require the passcode after 5 minutes of inactivity (similar to a computer screen saver.)
- If a user enters the passcode unsuccessfully 10 times, the device will automatically erase the data and reset itself to the factory configuration. Email, calendar, and contacts are backed up to the Cloud and will therefore be restored when the phone is reconnected and synchronized. The remainder of the data and configuration is backed up on your personal computer by using software provided by the phone vendor. For example, if you use an iPhone, it is backed up when you sync it to iTunes. Its recommended to perform this backup/sync on a regular basis (as little as once per month is probably sufficient).
Many of you may be asking why these measures are in place. The answer is simple. As a primary player in your technology team we need to help ensure that you and your firm's sensitive information is secure. If you have any questions regarding this policy, please contact the Xcentric support team.
