Scanning into Xcentric Cloud is Slow

There are several things that can cause slowness while scanning.  The easiest to fix are the following:  lower the DPI settings; scan front pages only (as opposed to duplex); and if available, choose a smaller file size as opposed to High Quality.
If the settings above aren’t working, you may have an issue with your Antivirus trying to scan items before they are sent to the Cloud.  There are two things that must be excluded from the active scan.  The first is the folder that is associated with your scanner.  In the case of Fujitsu you would see C:\Windows\Twain_32\Fjscan32.  Then you also want to get the log  file as well.
There are several configuration settings that can cause slowness when scanning to Xcentric Cloud. Here are some suggestions for changing settings that can decrease the time required to scan:
  • decrease the resolution or DPI setting (a setting of 200 or 300dpi should be sufficient for most tasks)
  • scan the front of pages only when the back is blank (instead of duplex scanning, which scans both sides)
  • choose a higher compression/lower quality file instead of high quality

Most scanning applications will have these settings, although the naming may be slightly different. If adjusting the settings above doesn't solve the slow scanning problem, you may have an issue with your antivirus program trying to monitor the scan before it is sent to the Cloud. By excluding two items related to scanning from the active antivirus scan, the speed of scanning may be increased. The first is the twain folder that is associated with your scanner. The second is the twain log file.

Note: This solution is demonstrated and tested for Fujitsu scanners.  Although the solution may work for other desktop scanners, the file locations may be different for your particular brand of scanner. Also, the instructions below are designed for the AVG antivirus program.  If you are using a different antivirus program, the steps required to exclude files and folders will be different.

  7. Click the Edit List button.
  8. Type in the path to the twain.log file.  The path for Windows XP computers is: C:\Documents and Settings\YourUserName\local settings\temp\twain.log.  The path for Windows Vista and Windows 7 computers is: C:\Users\YourUserName\AppData\Local\Temp\twain.log.
